Tragic Accident at Mumbai's Versova Beach: SUV Runs Over Sleeping Men

**Mumbai, August 12, 2024** — A tragic accident early Monday morning at Versova Beach in Mumbai has left one man dead and another critically injured. The incident occurred when a speeding SUV ran over two men who were sleeping on the beach.

The deceased, Ganesh Yadav, a 36-year-old rickshaw driver, was pronounced dead at Cooper Hospital shortly after the accident. His friend, Bablu Srivastava, was seriously injured and is receiving medical treatment. Both men had sought refuge on the beach to escape the sweltering heat.

According to police reports, Bablu Srivastava was jolted awake by a loud noise, only to see the white SUV crushing Ganesh. Two individuals from the vehicle initially attempted to assist Ganesh but soon fled the scene when their efforts failed.

The driver of the SUV, Nikhil Jawle, 34, and his companion, Shubham Dongre, 33, have been arrested. They face charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder. Both have been placed in judicial custody for five days by the Andheri court. The authorities have also collected blood samples from the accused for testing to determine if alcohol played a role in the accident.

The police have registered an FIR under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The investigation continues as officials work to piece together the details surrounding this tragic event.
